Assistant Professor in Arabic Studies/Comparative Literature Program in Comparative and World Literature



The Program in Comparative and World Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with an emphasis on the literatures and cultures of the Arab world. Area of specialization open. The candidate should be able to teach advanced courses in Arabic culture and literatures, as well as general education courses in global studies and comparative courses in world literature. Specializations in any of the following fields are a plus: a related literary tradition, gender, film and media studies, intellectual history, art. A Ph.D. is required at time of appointment. Successful candidates will provide evidence of an active research agenda and publication record, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Teaching load is two courses (or equivalent) per semester. Salary is competitive. Target start date is August 16, 2014.
